Pork Pickup Estimates for 2024 – Late-November

We purchase our cross-breed piglets from local farmers and/or the Amish countryside. They are 6-9 weeks old when they come to live at Schmader Farms. Our pigpen allow for plenty of rooting around and playing in their personal favorite form of matter: mud! They enjoy both shelter and plenty of sunlight. We’re confident they are very happy pigs.

They are given constant access to a quality grain mash, expertly formulated for pork growth and nutrition. We buy our grain mash from local grain mills, and haul countless 50 pound bags to our farm. Pigs eat a lot!  We do not use growth hormones.

What to expect from a 1/2-Side of Pork

Approximately 55 lbs of Meat:

  • 15 lb loin (roasts or pork chops)
  • 2-3 shoulder roasts (3-4 lb each)
  • 2 small hams (3.5 lb each) + 4-5 ham steaks OR 1 large whole ham
  • 5-6 lb bacon
  • 3 lb spare ribs
  • (Babyback ribs available if chops are boneless)
  • 10 lb sausage

Pork Price Estimates

$3.29 / hanging weight pound

Half: Approximately $375 ($285 to Schmader Farms + $90 to local butcher)

Whole: Approximately $750 ($575 to Schmader Farms + $175 to local butcher)

*Hanging weight is approximately 72% of the live weight for a hog.  (Estimate 160-175 lb for hanging weight.)

Order + Payment

Your order commitment is taken on our website. The downpayment is non-refundable. Due to variable hanging weights and processing costs, prices listed are estimates only.  These estimates include the half side or whole animal (paid to Schmader Farms) & butchering costs (processing & wrapping paid to a local butcher).

Expect to work on cut sheets and specific order requests with butcher prior to market week.

Final payment to Schmader Farms is due market-week, 3-4 days after animals go to the meat processor.  (Price per pound calculated by hanging weight.*)

Final payment to butcher is due when you pick up the finished meat products.  We work with several local butchers, so please inquire about specific location and pickup date when you place initial order.  We communicate all dates and pickup details via email.  Be sure to keep our email information close by!
